A more rarely seen technical feature is exemplified by the folded flange in the side walls of bowls (HKU.M.2022.2615). This detail is known from eastern Mediterranean objects dating to the first century CE.
This bowl was likely used to serve food or drink. The folding of the glass material adds strength to the vessel’s side wall.
